Osaka Makes Winning Start To Season In Auckland

Naomi Osaka made a triumphant start to her 2025 season, defeating qualifier Lina Glushko 6-4, 6-4 at the ASB Classic in Auckland. This marks her first match win after an almost three-month absence from the court due to injury.

Osaka, a four-time Grand Slam champion, demonstrated solid control over her service and created opportunities for herself on return. She fired seven aces and converted three of her seven break point chances to secure the win in 1 hour and 25 minutes.

The Japanese star, currently ranked 57th, is striving to regain her former glory after struggling for consistency since returning to the court following the birth of her daughter in July 2023. Osaka's next challenge will be against either Julia Grabher or qualifier Leyre Romero Gormaz in the second round.
